"I have been a registered Social Worker for 16 years. I have worked within North East Lincolnshire and predominately Focus for the majority of that time. I enjoy working for an employer who values their employee’s, offers ongoing training & development opportunities and welcomes suggestions & ideas from its workforce, all of which Focus offers.

I have had the opportunity to progress my career with Focus from starting as in unqualified coordinator role, to Social Work Practitioner, Advanced Practitioner and to my current post as Head of Service (Practice).

I joined focus two years ago as an A3 Assessor on Single Point of Access. I have since worked within the Short-Term Team, and have now been given the great opportunity to complete a Social Work Apprenticeship, working within the Long-Term Team whilst completing my Social Work degree in order to become a qualified member of staff. The colleagues I have worked with in all three teams have been welcoming, friendly and supportive.

Changing career took a huge leap of faith but it could not have worked out any better. I feel proud to work for such a supportive organisation, and fortunate to be provided with great learning and development opportunities.

Coming from a smaller organisation I was excited by what career and development prospects an organisation like focus could offer to me. With teams covering roles from the businesses function to social care I feel like I have access to a wide variety of knowledge for my own personal development. The recruitment process was easy and I was kept informed at all stages of the process i.e. testing/interviews etc.

I’ve been working for focus for almost two years and I have always felt valued and heard as an employee. We have access to great staff benefits and with being an independent social enterprise the leadership team have more freedom to make decisions for the better of the work force. Focus promotes an agile and flexible work environment where possible and the result of this is a healthy work life balance.

Back in 2018 I found myself having to seek alternative employment and I came across focus’ advertisement for finance roles. I researched focus and really liked their values and commitment to the community. I also looked at the employee benefits and focus seemed to have the same commitment to staff. The annual leave and flexible working was very impressive this was worth another £2K salary for me personally. For me Job role satisfaction and working environment is more important than salary.

I decided to attend an open day where I met several members of the Finance Team who made me feel very welcome. I really liked the fact that focus held an open day as it gave you a small insight into the company, the role and being able to meet other members of staff before applying. The application process was very streamlined and I felt very at ease during the interviews – which was nice after not having an interview for 17 years.
